In May 2012, we bid a fond farewell to our colleague, Dr. Jack M Kartush, MD. Dr. Kartush took an early retirement for health reasons. Dr. Kartush is one of the original “Founding Fathers“ of Michigan Ear Institute with Dr’s Dennis Bojrab, Malcolm Graham and Ted McGee. He established our facial nerve monitoring program, Neurotology Fellowship program and temporal bone laboratory. Dr. Kartush is a recognized pioneer in facial nerve monitoring and Patient Safety, being the first to recommend that surgeons mark the surgical site before an operation. His Facial Nerve Integrity Monitor is used in operating rooms throughout the world every day. He has over 200 scientific publications and a dozen medical and surgical patents.
